A Hand Up for the Holidays

“After I became disabled I had a hard time living on disability. My wife and I relied on Davis Street to help make ends meet when our disability checks couldn’t go far enough. We have been raising my three grandchildren for many years now.

When my wife died and suddenly near Christmas time I was devastated. I had no money for the funeral let alone gifts for the grandkids. Adults can understand when Christmas has to take a back seat to life, but kids don’t.

The Davis Street staff came through to me during the most difficult time in my life and gave presents and a great dinner to the kids. We are now on the road to recovery, having a place to live and way to support ourselves”   – Dale, Past client and Vietnam Veteran

Friends…

As Dale described, it is so challenging to keep holiday spirits aloft while facing the financial burdens and circumstances our families face. Davis Street is here to pitch in some extra holiday support when families need it most. We can only do this with the cooperation of our community, so we humbly invite you to participate in Davis Street’s Holiday Food & Toy Basket Program, our annual tradition of giving in the Eden Area.

WHAT IS DAVIS STREET’S HOLIDAY PROGRAM GOAL?

Our goal this season is to serve over 1,000 families, individuals, and seniors with holiday food baskets and toys for children on December 20th and 21st.

WHAT DOES DAVIS STREET NEED FOR THE HOLIDAY PROGRAM?

Now through Dec 19th, we are seeking (tax-deductible) donations of:

  • Non-perishable food
  • Frozen turkeys (to be dropped off at our food warehouse freezers)
  • New (unwrapped) toys for children and youth ages infant to 12.
  • Gift certificates for teenagers (suggested $15- $20 increments)
  • Cash contributions for purchasing food

WHERE/HOW CAN I DROP ITEMS OFF?

Items may be dropped off at 3081 Teagarden Street, San Leandro 94577 – Monday- Thursday 9 AM – 8:00 PM and Friday 9 AM – 5:30 PM. On behalf of the families whose holidays will be brightened, THANK YOU for your generosity and valuable support!

CAN I HOST A FOOD OR TOY DRIVE?

YES!!! Every year a collection of 200  businesses, local clubs, faith groups, homeowner associations, and clubs host drives that allow this program to happen. We drop off and pick up our own collection bins to these partners. To host a food and toy drive, please e-mail mmusgrove@davisstreet.org with your address, how many collection bins you would like, and a contact name and phone number. Every bit of help makes a difference! Click here for our HOLIDAY FLYER. It will tell you what exactly we’re looking for!
