Job Description

The Medical Assistant performs clinical duties under the direction of the Nurse Manager, Staff Physicians and Nurse Practitioners. Clinical duties including patient triage, data collection and recording, administration of vaccines and medications, medical records keeping, limited patient education, labeling and collecting laboratory specimens.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for greeting patients into the exam room areas and driving a positive patient customer service experience
  • Prepares patients for provider, including taking medical history, medication reconciliation, vital signs and performing required testing
  • Runs quality assurance tests daily to ensure proper functionality of equipment for in-house testing
  • Performs various medical assistant procedures, including but not limited to: finger sticks for hemoglobin checks; ear washes; nebulizer treatments; urine dipsticks; specimen collection for throat and/or urine cultures; wound cleaning; PPD placement; INR; glucose; HCG; and Hemoglobin A1C, vision and audiology screening
  • Prepare and administer immunizations as directed by the provider and documents in electronic health record
  • Ensures that all logs, forms record and charts are complete thorough and accurate
  • Provides patient education and follow-up care instructions
  • Disinfects and prepares treatment rooms, equipment and supplies in a timely manner to ensure optimum flow
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies
  • Performs all duties and functions in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations
  • Effective communication with Patients, Medical Providers and other Administrative staff members
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively function with other MAs in a fast-paced, stressful environment while delivering high customer service and high quality of work
  • Proactively helps teammates during down time
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Training program
  • 1 year MA experience in a clinical setting
  • Current CPR / BLS certification
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook]) and EMR
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Davis Street
