Job Description

The HR Specialist performs HR generalist duties across assigned programs. Work as a flexible HR team member and provides excellent customer service in a professional manner. The HR Specialist maintains strict confidentiality in performing responsibilities, and works in accordance with department and agency policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide HR services for Davis Street’s assigned programs. Provide guidance and respond to questions while adhering to company policies and external laws.
  • Maintain knowledge of employment laws, program requirements and best practices to maintain and enhance the quality and compliance of HR services.
  • Perform full-cycle talent acquisition for assigned programs, including position requirements, creating effective ads, recruiting and sourcing, participating in job fairs and outreach events, employee referrals, presenting job offers, conducting new hire check-ins, and coaching managers on the hiring process.
  • Coordinate and track student/trainee/volunteer requests and maintain required documents.
  • Maintain recruiting, turnover and retention metrics, cost/impact of turnover, and evaluate trends for the appropriate actions.
  • Participate in HR onboarding program and present assigned information to new hires.
  • Administer employee benefits for assigned programs and assist with annual open enrollment events.
  • Perform offboarding, conduct exit interviews and track exit feedback for appropriate actions.
  • Respond to EDD unemployment and disability claims.
  • Assist with leave of absences and workers comp claims. Track and provide instructions and guidance to employees and provide updates as needed.
  • Assist with employee recognition programs.
  • Work with assigned Managers to update and maintain job descriptions.
  • Submit monthly agency-wide communications on HR related information for distribution.
  • Assist with misc. projects, audits, trainings and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2 years HR experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or certificate in HR or related field, with understanding of HR practices and employment laws
  • Strong judgement and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks with timeliness and attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills using MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and Zoom/Teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor
