Warehouse Assistant – Nonprofit Food & Clothing Program

Job Description

Join Our Basic Needs Team! Be the friendly face that helps to organize and share food with those in need. Work hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Receiving, inspecting, and organizing incoming donations and supplies, including food, non-food items, and other essential goods.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment, including proper storage and rotation of items.
  • Ensuring food safety and quality standards are met, including checking for expiration dates and potential recalls.
  • Ordering food provided by the Alameda County Food Bank
  • Stocking shelves, refrigerators and freezers
  • Assist with food distribution to clients (food bag preparation, distribution, food support)
  • Assist with client check in and other administrative tasks as necessary
  • Perform home deliveries of food to individuals not able to get to food bank (shut-ins)
  • Pickup food donations from food recovery sites, food bank and other donors.
  • Unloading and stocking donations to appropriate locations
  • Responsible for maintaining and cleaning coolers and freezers
  • Responsible for accurately processing delivery and donation paperwork.
  • Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of Davis Street Basic Needs vehicles
  • Assist with special events that include monthly drives, Back to School, Holiday Basket program and Postal Food Drive
  • Work with DSCC child care sites and community-based organizations to distribute food
  • Use of heavy equipment such as pallet jacks, walker stacker and truck lifts
  • Attend meetings and trainings as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Prior commercial vehicle with lift experience (Box Truck experience)
  • Valid class C drivers license and clean DMV record
  • High School diploma
  • Basic Computer skill such as Excel, Work and Outlook
  • Bilingual: English / Cantonese a plus, but not required
  • Must be able to follow directions and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Must possess the physical ability to repetitively carry, sort and stock food and/or clothing up to 50lbs
