December 21, 2017; San Leandro, California: Friday, December 21st, more than 100 staff and volunteers from throughout the community handed out food baskets and toys to nearly 1,000 families in need at the Davis Street Family Resource Center.
Setup for the 48th Annual Davis Street Holiday Basket Program began at 6:30am to prepare for the families and seniors enrolled in the program. Families received a basket containing a complete holiday meal—including: a turkey, fresh produce and all the fixings. Children enrolled in the program received new age appropriate toys or gift cards thanks to the community.
Alameda County Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, San Leandro Rotary Club, and other community volunteers distributed food and toys to families in need. With much support, Davis Street was able to provide food and toys to 1,000 families including 174 seniors and 1,500 children.
About Davis Street Holiday Basket Program
For 48 years, Davis Street, in collaboration with the Alameda County Fire Department, San Leandro Police Officers Association, local schools, clubs, faith-based communities, and businesses, has provided food baskets to more than 1,000 families throughout San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Ashland, Cherryland, and Castro Valley. The Holiday Basket Program provides families, and seniors with a holiday feast, a turkey, fresh produce, seasonal goods, and new toys and gift cards for the children.
