Job Description
The Behavioral Health Manager is responsible for implementing and managing a substance abuse treatment program, conducting psychosocial assessment, diagnostic services, individual and group psychotherapy and case management/coordination with medical providers and supervision of behavioral health staff. Responsible for serving populations with a variety of clinical needs particularly psychological stress related to health impairments, chronic illness, trauma, death and dying, marriage and family dysfunction as well as substance use. Based on overall assessment and summary of patients and family needs, makes appropriate community referrals for follow up as needed. Participates in clinical training as needed. This position is hybrid in that it requires carrying a treatment caseload and managing administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and staff a substance abuse treatment program which includes group and individual treatment modalities.
- Hire and supervise licensed and unlicensed behavioral health psychotherapists.
- Provide mental health screenings and initial assessments to medically referred and other clients.
- Provide short‐term, structured, evidence‐based psychotherapy as part of an appropriate treatment plan and in accordance with Davis Street contracts.
- Coordinate and collaborate with primary care providers to improve health outcomes.
- Facilitate referrals to other services (e.g. substance use treatment, specialty care and community resources) as needed.
- Provide clinical therapeutic services to patients, including individual and group therapy and coordination of treatment for participants with co‐occurring disorders.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Work to meet patient needs effectively and resolve individual barriers through follow‐up, advocacy and collaboration with Davis Street staff and other community service providers.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of activities, case management notes, and services provided to each client, including timely and safe discharge plans following Davis Street guidelines.
- Must be able to accept and counsel patients who are referred through the warm handoff process.
- Must participate in staff meetings, peer reviews and other required trainings.
- Lead and/or participate in initiatives to promote and grow Behavioral Health Services. Patient case management is required.
- Ensure template standardization to support efficient practice and fidelity to the care model.
- Establish and maintain appropriate billing practices to support maximizing financial performance in multiple settings and licensure.
- Support development and utilization of new billing models to maximize reimbursement.
- Promote growth of Behavioral Health staff in areas of leadership, clinical excellence, patient-centered care, education, and organizational involvement to meet the identified goals and needs of the employee and organization.
- Monitor, support, and provide hands-on teaching to clinicians in their practice management to meet expectations for good patient care and ambulatory standards.
- Provide annual performance reviews with input from key stakeholders.
- Provide guidance on clinic budget inputs related to BH expenses and work with clinic leaders to monitor.
- Other duties as assigned to support the mission of Davis Street.
Requirements
- Licensed Psychologist, LCSW, LMFT or LPCC with current California license
- Experience working in outpatient substance abuse treatment programs
- Certified or licensed AOD
- 2 years direct client experience required
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- Experience in a community health center setting preferred
- Self-starter, capable of managing staff and giving directions to others and working under pressure in certain cases
- Familiarity with multicultural groups, previous work experience in a multicultural setting and willingness to enroll in language and multicultural coursework to supplement training if necessary
- Ability to use computer and other electronic devices to utilize EHR system and companion software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to organize, prioritize and handle multiple tasks with attention to detail
- Excellent work habits: punctual, reliable, cooperative, team player
