Health Fair has more than 1,000 attendees and 586 Children Receive New Backpacks and Shoes!

Saturday August 10,
Davis Street hosted its 5th Annual Community Health Fair. 
The Community Health Fair featured
linkages to 25 other community resources and had more than 1,000 attendees. The
event included a free fresh produce giveaway thanks to a local donor, clinic
tours, blood pressure checks, bike raffles, dental screenings, children’s
activity area, games, face painting, music, and complimentary lunch cooked by
the Local 55 Firefighters Union of Alameda County.

The Back 2 School Giveaway, a staple of Davis Street for 15
years, has helped relieve low-income and homeless families of the burden of
purchasing school supplies. The backpack and shoe giveaway was distributed
during the Health Fair providing 586 children in-need with new shoes, and
backpacks filled with pencils, pens, colored pencils, crayons, highlighters,
erasers, wide ruled and collage paper, notebooks, note cards, markers, folders,
glue sticks, and scissors for the upcoming school year.

Health Fair participants included: Alameda County Fire
Department, San Leandro Police Department, Abbot Diabetes Care Division, Agape
Villages Foster Family Agency, Alameda County District Attorney Office, Alameda
County Social Services, Al-Anon, Alzheimer's Association, AUMT Institute, Building
Futures for Women and Children, Castro Valley Yoga, Drivers for Survivors, Eden
Information and Referral (211), Larry Arnold, Legal Assistance for Seniors,
Migrant Education Program, Modern Woodmen Financial, Neighborhood Wellness,
PG&E, Project Eden, a program of Horizon Services Inc., Rubicon Programs,
San Leandro Recreation and Human Services, Toof, and Wellbrook Family
Chiropractic.

subsidized child care; housing and utility assistance and referrals; five
childcare centers; and Stepping Stones Growth Center services to more than 250
adults with a developmental disability.
