Eden Medical Center has donated $10,000 to the Davis Street Family Resource Center Food Pantry in San Leandro. The donation is part of a donation of $265,000 to 28 food banks across Northern California, and in Oregon and Hawaii by Sutter Health. The donation by the not-for-profit health network enables local food banks to provide healthy meals or bags of food to those in need.

"Many of the most vulnerable people in our community—including children and seniors—worry every day about where their next meal is coming from," said Stephen Gray, CEO of Eden Medical Center. "I'm very proud that Eden and Sutter Health have made this donation to support the Davis Street Family Resource Center Food Pantry. By helping feed our neighbors, we're supporting a healthier community."

Sutter Health's donations to community food banks over the past 10 years total more than $2 million—which has fed countless individuals and families.

For 48 years, Davis Street, in collaboration with the Alameda County Fire Department, San Leandro Police Officers Association, local schools, clubs, faith-based communities, and businesses, has provided food baskets to more than 1,000 low-income families throughout Castro Valley, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Ashland, and Cherryland. Last year the Holiday Basket Program provided 1,002 families, including 212 seniors and more than 1,600 children, with a holiday feast; which included a turkey, fresh produce, seasonal goods, and new toys or gift cards for children.

Sutter Health's Commitment to Communities

As a not-for-profit organization, Sutter Health believes in giving back. Sutter Health's total community benefit investment was $612 million in 2017. These funds supported traditional charity care, unreimbursed Medi-Cal costs, health education and community clinics. Locally Sutter Health and Eden Medical Center invest in Davis Street's Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and the Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center to expand access to medical and behavioral health services.
