Davis Street Brightens Holidays for Nearly 1,000 Families!
December 23, 2019; San Leandro, California: Monday, December 23, 2019 more than 100 staff
and volunteers from throughout the community handed out food baskets and toys
to nearly 1,000 families in need at the Davis Street Community Center.
Setup for the 49th Annual Davis Street Holiday Basket
Program began at 6:30am to prepare for the families and seniors enrolled in the
program throughout San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Ashland, Cherryland, and Castro
Valley area. Families received a basket containing a complete holiday
meal—including: a turkey, fresh produce and all the fixings. Children enrolled
in the program received new age appropriate toys or gift cards thanks to the
community.
Alameda County Fire Department, Local 55 Firefighters Union of Alameda County, California Highway Patrol, San Leandro Police Department, and other community volunteers distributed food and toys to families in need. With the many donations and support from the community, Davis Street was able to provide food and toys to 3,164 individuals including 173 seniors and 1,723 children.
